MANOJ BHARGAVA, chief executive officer and founder of 5-hour Energy makes an assertion which we would find hard to contradict: “An expert knows everything about the past.”
Take, for instance an economist. He or she may look at the events in a country, practices of its people and activities of the public and private sector of yesteryear and builds a hypothetical economic future which he or she may suggest is concrete rather than the powdery cement, in fact.
A tourism expert may relish the indications of economic recovery in country “U” and predicts more visitor arrivals for country “BB” in the future. When the future becomes now and not tomorrow the expert may discover that the past may not have always accurately informed the future.
Some people define an expert as “a former ‘drip’ under pressure”. Whether that pressure produced a “spurt” or its variation “spirt” we can find out, for the good thing about the past is we can look back to find out if the predicted results yielded a spurt, spirt or just a drip.
While experts may have their role, what we need right now are futurists – people who make the really new happen – not just people who are determined to create a better model T Ford in the future.
