GALLE, Sri Lanka – Veteran left-arm spinner Rangana Herath exposed the familiar fragility of West Indies’ batting here yesterday, claiming six for 68 and adding a further scalp when the visitors’ followed on as Sri Lanka tightened their grip on the first cricket Test.
The West Indies, overnight 66-2 in pursuit of the hosts’ formidable 484, were bowled out for an inadequate 251 in their first innings as Herath claimed his 23rd five-wicket haul – an amazing eighth at this venue.
Following on, the tourists dipped to 67-2 and, still trailing by 166, face a titanic task to save the match.
The West Indies’ top ten all reached double figures but none got more than Darren Bravo’s determined top score of 50.
