KNOCKOUT KINGS Barbados Bearings Progressive regained an outside chance of scoring double crown honours in 2015 when the Goddard Enterprises Limited Division 1 league continued at the Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex on Wednesday night.
Progressive handed leaders Flow Deacons their first league loss via a 24-26, 25-23, 25-22, 25-17 result. Even without a recognised setter, Progressive looked good and surged from a set down, with Akeem Payne and veteran Fabian Cox countering the assaults from Kyle Browne and Andriy Stapleton.
To claim a fifth double crown, Progressive will need to win their remaining matches and hope Deacons lose another game. The biggest threat facing both teams is expected to come from defending champions Chargers.
In the women’s competition, Flow Sentry Brokers Deacons continued their march towards a sure double by hammering Brydens Rockets 25-10, 25-21, 25-23.
