BARBADOS’ NEWEST backyard zoo was launched last weekend when scores of Barbadians visited the MariZayra Sanctuary in Wellhouse, St Philip, to be up close with a number of birds, reptiles and fish.

The sanctuary, run by Greta Inniss and family, is aimed at getting people involved in more outdoor activities and to bring the community together.

Her daughter Sandra Weekes said the current project was initially started three months ago before the weekend launch. She added that their love for animals had been nurtured many years ago through their late father Errol Weekes.

“He was a lover of animals and he used to exhibit them at various agricultural shows in St Philip,” she added.
