Progressive title hopes slip away

VOLLEYBALL KNOCKOUT kings and queens can kiss goodbye to any dreams of a double crown in 2015.

That was after the front runners – men’s knockout champions Barbados Bearings Progressive and women’s counterparts Flow Sentry Brokers Deacons – lost crucial matches when the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one league continued at the Wildey Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Progressive played the defending champions Chargers needing to win the match and then hope that Chargers or someone else would defeat Flow Deacons to allow them to sneak to the title.

However, just like in the first round, Progressive inexplicably faltered after being up two sets to lose the match 25-14, 21-25, 25-23, 16-25, 10-15. Jamaican Mark Lewis carried Chargers’ offence which had looked brittle with the team missing Barbados captain and setter Alain London.
