Long Bay’s vigil for lost daughters

LIKE A SUDDEN outburst of tears, the rains blessed the estimated 500 men, women and children who turned out last night in Long Bay, St Philip to commemorate the lives of four young women who died in a car crash last Sunday morning.

The Long Bay community was the epicentre of the tragedy as three of the deceased, cousins Shakira and Shameka Shepherd and Carey Brathwaite, came from the district, as well as the lone survivor Nakisha Shepherd. The fourth victim, Waveney Johnson, resided at nearby Atlantic Park.

If one could place a theme on the night, it was “only the good die young”, as people of all ages spoke highly of the young women. (SP)
