RECORDS TUMBLED as drivers and riders thrilled close to 3 000 motoring fans in the penultimate event of the 2015 season at Paragon, Christ Church, on Sunday.
It was an Acceleration Test called Nostalgia – Past Meets Present, organised by the Barbados Association of Drifters and Dragsters (BADD) and attracted over 45 drivers of cars, trucks and cycles at the venue, which was seeing action for the first time in 27 years.
Roger “His Hotness” Mayers, in the Chefette/Digicel/Sol/DHL/Illusion Graphics/Hankook Ford Focus, erased the 27-year-old mark of 10.9 seconds set by Euclid Brancker, in a Ford Mustang with the new mark of 10.286 seconds. However, this mark was trumped by David “Bally” Balgobin, at the wheel of a race-prepared Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV, who posted a new record of 9.936 seconds.
Among the cycles, Kelvin Daniel, on a Kawasaki Ninja ZX10R, reached 150 miles per hour as he clocked a new quarter-mile record time of 9.608 seconds. (TT)
