THE HOCKEY AstroTurf surface should be out of the Bridgetown Port within a week.
Reliable sources told NATIONSPORT yesterday that the issues which caused the artificial turf to be held up in the port for more than two months had been resolved.
One of the major stumbling blocks had to do with finding the money to pay for duties and port charges.
However, it is understood that the Ministry Of Finance waived the various duties to make it easier for the release of the turf which was sourced in Argentina to be used in the remedial work to be done at the sport’s home in Wildey.
There has been no hockey played at the Wildey facility for over five years because of the state of the old surface and the Barbados Hockey Federation (BHF) has been forced to play tournaments on the seven-a-side artificial field at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies. (AT)
