THE FIRST HALF of the 2016 Banks Calendar Girl semi-finals started on a solemn note tonight with a minute of silence for former contestant Carey Brathwaite.

The 18-year-old was one four young women who died in a car accident along Two Mile Hill, St Michael two weeks ago.

Banks decided not to replace her so 15 competitors are taking part in the event at Oistins Bay Garden.

They all wore red ribbons in tribute to Brathwaite. The ladies all came out in a red top and tights designed by well-known designer Lauren Austin of Zulu International. (NS)
