PALLEKELE – Marlon Samuels shone brightly during a classy century here yesterday, but no other West Indian could match his brilliance, as Sri Lanka cruised to a 3-0 series sweep with victory in the third and final One-Day International (ODI).
Samuels’ unbeaten 110, his ninth ODI century, was decorated with 15 fours and a six, and rescued the West Indies from habitual early batting peril.
In yet another rain-truncated innings, the visitors rebounded from 18 for four and 104 for six – when a lengthy rain break forced a reduction in overs – to reach 206 for nine off 36 overs.
Sri Lanka’s Duckworth/Lewis target was reduced – largely due to the initial West Indian collapse – to 190.
