ONE YEAR AFTER disbandment of its main tourism agency, Barbados is trending towards the best tourism performance in five years.

Chief executive officer of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI), William Griffith, is reporting a 14.7 increase in tourist arrivals between January and October. He said there has been growth in all the major source markets including the Caribbean and higher hotel occupancies than in the past five years.

It was just about a year ago that the Barbados Tourism Authority was radically replaced with the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc of which Griffith is chief executive officer, and the Barbados Tourism Product Authority headed by Dr Kerry Hall.

“One of the things that I have been happy about is that we have been able to manage this massive change and at the same time keep the initiatives going,” Griffith told the SATURDAY SUN.
