Port ensuring smooth cruising

The Bridgetown Port Inc. is carefully navigating the busy 2015/2016 winter cruise season to ensure smooth sailing.

Divisional manager Kenneth Atherley said with cruise numbers continuing to rise, this had resulted in added security and planning.

“This year we are going to have about 700 000 passengers which is an increase over last year by about five per cent, and based upon the bookings that we have for the next year 2016, we’re going to have a further seven per cent or so growth,” he explained.

During the port’s open day on Saturday, he told the DAILY NATION that Britain’s largest cruise ship Britannia and German vessel Mein Schiff 3 – one of 16 new vessels calling this year – were going to be here this week at the same time over two days.
