BRIDGETOWN IS a city with a great history and its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site should incentivize us to live up to having a special location. But, sadly, we are recording failing grades in too many areas and must be careful not to become a city in decline.
There are too many eyesores across Bridgetown. From the dilapidated shacks at the vendors market at Cheapside, to the unsightly scene at the former Fairchild Street market, to the litter strewn across too many streets. The deliberate destruction of the potted plants on Swan Street paints an ugly picture. We have too many unoccupied buildings in the heart of Bridgetown, while Queen’s Park, one of the oldest green spaces, needs a major facelift.
