STUART HOLDER and Tabu Lall Kissoon made a clean sweep of the two categories when the Mint Condition Industrial Services Limited ISKF Karate National Tournament was held last Saturday at the Ursuline Covenant.
Holder dominated in both the kata and kumite in the black belt adult division while Kissoon swept the girls’ black belt division in the last major karate event for the year.
Tenisha Plowell received silver in both kata and kumite of the girls’ black belt adults division.
In the boys’ black belt teenage division, Alex Ince won gold in kumite and silver in kata, while Joseph Tseu got gold in kata and silver in kumite.
In the adult women’s brown belts, Jo-Ann Kinch gained gold in kata with Anghaleata Brandford earning the gold medal in kumite.
Myles Gittens dominated in the adult men’s brown belt division, receiving gold in both events.
Competing in her first tournament, six-year-old Kristen-Ann Clarke received gold in both the kata and kumite white belt divisions.
Next year, ISKF International will host their third World Shoto Cup in Cape Town, South Africa, in August, and it is anticipated that Barbados will be represented by a small team of karatekas.
