Grandchildren ‘taken’ away

ANTHONY AND THERESA MAYERS want to know how police officers could order them to hand over their two grandchildren, who have been in their custody for over 12 years, to their father without producing any documentation.

The couple who reside in the City, said the children’s father, who lives in the United States, turned up at their doorstep last Sunday morning without prior notice. He was accompanied by two police officers and simply said his attorney told him that he could collect the children.

Theresa, 66, who has had custody of the children, 14 and 12 years old, from the time they were 18 months and nine months respectively, said she tried to tell the police that her daughter had gained custody of the children.
