AFTER HER LIFE was put on hold with a feeling of helplessness, mother of three Tanya Best is breathing a big sigh of relief.
Her one-year-old child, Daniel, returned from a Queens, New York hospital with her yesterday after a series of successful tests to determine a medical condition.
A bubbly Daniel, who has become pudgy after doses of steroids, was diagnosed with a rare liver disease, Obstructive Sleep Apnea [blockage of the upper airways which causes difficulty breathing during sleep], and Dysplasia [organ or tissue growth by the spread of cells of an abnormal type].
A tired Tanya said though she was happy Daniel did not have what local doctors had diagnosed, she now to deal the new developments.
“It’s a long road ahead and I’m thankful to all who helped but there’s no place like home,” she said, embracing her other two sweethearts Arianna and Nathan, who met them at Grantley Adams International Airport.
“I love and missed my kids . . . but I know they were well taken care of,” she said, attributing her positive state to God.
Daniel has been restricted to soft food until yearend and must use a wedge to prop his head while he sleeps.
The surgery had been estimated to cost $50 000.
President and co-founder of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Barbados, Michael Turton, said Tanya received sponsorship from a variety of sources to cover her accommodation. (MR)
