Arawak price cut ‘always on cards’

It wasn’t the rock hard competition which forced the Arawak Cement Company to reduce its prices twice in the space of seven days, the Trinidadian-owned company has claimed.

And according to officials of the St Lucy-based cement producer, the new competition on the market may claim to be stiff, but Arawak, as the longest player in Barbados’ cement market, plans to stand firm in the face of decreased market share.

In an interview with the SUNDAY SUN on Friday Arawak’s general manager Rupert Greene said the company didn’t drop the price of its product last week simply because another player had entered the market, but that a reduction had always been on the cards as part of their cost-efficient transition.
