Still much to be done

IT’S A TIME FOR REFLECTION.

A year before Barbados celebrates its golden jubilee as an independent nation, Bajans in North America are using the 49th anniversary of sovereignty to hail their birthplace’s social and economic development, but also to ponder its next step given the mounting national, regional and global challenges.

As they see it, their country has done well since November 30, 1966, but the persistent economic problems, the spectre of increasing crime and violence, and the potential environmental damage traceable to climate change can make the future exceedingly challenging.

Interestingly, the highly publicised Dr Maria Agard saga involving the parliamentarian and the Barbados Labour Party wasn’t a major source of worry.
