GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Bajan boxers certainly brought the fight to the ring.
Some of the country’s promising pugilists along with fighters from Trinidad and Tobago stole the spotlight during a development tournament dubbed Back To The Future, which climaxed last weekend.
Welterweight Ision Fraser, light welterweight Kimberly Gittens and middleweight Charles Cox excelled in the ring for Barbados while featherweight Justin Parris and Aaron Hackett, who fought in the welterweight division, were the outstanding boxers for T&T.
Fraser opened his account for Barbados with a second round TKO victory over St Lucian Tahj Browne and returned to win on points over Trinidadian Ronaldo Stewart to be adjudged the best youth boxer on show.
Gittens was declared the best female boxer after an impressive display to defeat Shantal Adams of Trinidad and Tobago.
Barbados also clinched the award for the best novice boxer through middleweight Charles Cox, who scored a decisive victory over Guyanese Roger Sloon before registering a similar win over another Guyanese, Dwayne July.
Parris scored a crunching first-round technical knockout over Guyanese Rene Claude Dutard and followed up with a first round TKO against Jamaican Daniel Hylton to be voted best junior boxer on show.
His countryman Hackett was voted best senior boxer after a surprise victory over St Lucian strongman Lyndell Marcellin before defeating Jamaican Nico Yeyo. (JM/CMC)
