UNLESS HE CAN CLEAR close to 50 cars from the Bridgetown Port, used car dealer Bertram Jones says the closure of his business, Bargain Motors, is imminent.

Jones, who imported 60 cars on June 5, said he was only able to clear 12 of that shipment, because the Customs Warehouse bond he operated was said to have reached the maximum limit.

However, Jones said he had not actually reached the limit, but because of a problem where his total payments were not recorded, the system was showing that he owed over $610 000.

“In some instances we made payments and nothing was read as being paid. So what happened is that the bond kept on feeding on these short payments so it came to our maximum when it says we owe money, but we do not,” he stressed. (LK)
