BAY STREET was shut down yesterday morning as emergency personnel raced into action following a “security threat” at the country’s military headquarters.
As officers from the Barbados Defence Force (BDF), the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) and the Barbados Fire Service (BFS) officers positioned themselves to block access points to the BDF headquarters, civilians in the surrounding area were evacuated as a precaution.
Members of the RBPF Special Services Unit were seen checking vehicles with their under-vehicle inspection mirrors as K-9 units were also called into action.
Defence Force public relations officer Captain Gale Morgan revealed that an anonymous caller telephoned St Ann’s Fort and issued a threat. The BDF immediately responded by alerting lawmen and the fire service. (AD)
