Pay your taxes

MINISTER OF FINANCE Chris Sinckler is not backing down from his position that professionals, including doctors and lawyers, must pay their taxes just as all other workers in the country.

He said the refusal by some groups not to comply with the laws of the country was not good enough.

But he has stopped short of saying what action would be taken, saying that decision rests with the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA).

Sinckler reaffirmed his stance on the matter as doctors continue to resist a BRA request that they obtain a tax clearance certificate in order to obtain a licence to practice.

Speaking on the sideline of a Green Climate Change consultation yesterday, the minister said the matter could not be allowed to go unattended since quite a few professionals were not paying taxes. (WILLCOMM)
