Water woes strike City

THE IMPACT OF what was expected to be a shutdown of the water system along Roebuck Street, The City, over the weekend stretched into yesterday, leading to the closure of some businesses.

Harrison College, on Crumpton Street, just off Roebuck Street, remained closed yesterday, while the Nation Corporation’s Office on Roebuck Street closed early.

Glassesco’s management had to purchase bottled water to accommodate staff, while at clothing store Dallas Discounts, staff had to use the bathrooms at their other outlet in Prince William Henry Street.

Barbados Water Authority (BWA) corporate communications specialist Joy-Ann Haigh said that on Saturday the BWA continued work on the mains replacement component of the Water and Sanitation Systems Upgrade, where they did a shutdown in the area, but ran into some technical problems that meant the outage went on longer than expected.
