GRANTLEY ADAMS MEMORIAL and Combermere School are the new Schools Hockey League junior boys’ champions after Harrison College lost both finals at the UWI AstroTurf yesterday.
The boys from St Joseph won 2-1, courtesy of a brace from Corey Hoyte in the Under-13 final, while Combermere triumphed in the Under-15 championship match by a 3-1 scoreline.
Good defensive work by the Grantley Adams and Harrison College players meant there were no goals scored in the first half of the game.
However, in the early part of the second half, Hoyte scored from a penalty corner to start the celebrations for his team.
But that joy was dampened seconds later when Harrison College’s Amon Griffith made a pass to Ashan Brathwaite, who swept it to the left of the goalkeeper near the post to tie the score 1-1. (RG)
