MEMBER OF Parliament Dr Maria Agard has taken the Barbados Labour Party to court over her recent expulsion.
Yesterday her lawyers filed an action against the 77-year-old political party on whose ticket she won the Christ Church West seat in the 2013 general elections.
The dentist, represented by attorneys Queen’s Counsel Hal Gollop and Lynette Eastmond, is contesting the fairness and legitimacy of the decision by the national council of the BLP to expel her from the party on November 22.
Speaking to the WEEKEND NATION on his way to file the action yesterday afternoon, Gollop said they would now leave it to the court to test the validity of the decision taken by the council.
At a news conference last week with Agard, Gollop told reporters he had delivered a letter to the party headquarters addressed to general secretary Jerome Walcott, giving the council seven days to reverse its decision, or the matter would be taken to court. (SDB Media)
