A GAME HIGH 19 POINTS from Ahkeem Mayers led Barbados to a 25-19, 25-13, 26-24 victory over Martinique and a direct trip to Saturday’s semi-finals when the 10th CAZOVA Junior Volleyball Championships continued last night at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.

While the Bajans ended unbeaten in Group B, the French team failed to win a match and will play Aruba – who also failed to win a match in Group A – at noon today for seventh and eighth positions among the boys.

Barbados girls got off the mark by defeating arch rivals and former queens Trinidad &Tobago 25-19, 17-25, 25-21, 25-20 with Deandra Small leading the way with 15 points.  Tonight Barbados will battle defending champions Martinique in the eight o’clock quarter-finals.

Barbados and Curaçao both earned direct tickets to the semis while the United States Virgin Islands and Haiti did likewise among the girls. (KB)
