THE LEEWARD ISLANDS Hurricanes continue to cause destruction but only to themselves and their status as a first-class cricket team.
On a sunny second day with just a gentle breeze at Kensington Oval in their fifth series match against Barbados Pride, the Hurricanes gave another disastrous batting display in the Regional Professional Cricket League Four-Day Championship.
Replying to Barbados Pride’s first innings total of 368 in 109.2 overs, which was built around middle-order batsman Roston Chase’s career-best unbeaten 136, the Hurricanes started brightly.
They lost just one wicket before reaching 70 but were suddenly blown away by the gentle off-spin of Ashley Nurse and the more raging pace of Miguel Cummins for 170 in 70 overs at stumps to concede a lead of 198 runs and face a fifth consecutive defeat.
