IT WAS A FINAL for the history books as road tennis king Mark ‘Venom’ Griffith bounced back like a true champion for a riveting triumph of the Massy United Insurance Clash of the Titans on Sunday night at the Netball Stadium.

The marathon encounter stretched to almost three hours, with Griffith defeating a rampaging Julian “Michael Jackson” White 21-18, 18-21, 19-21, 22-20, 21-15. It was about 2:20 in the morning when Griffith captured the winning point and then fell to the court grimacing in pain from a leg cramp.

White was beaten but was certainly not disgraced as he fought right down to the end, despite developing a cramp in the right arm during the match.

Griffith won the first set 21-18 but White came back to win the next two sets 18-21, 19-21. (PG)
