ADVERTISEMENTS FOR WORK permits by a private school have raised concerns from the two teachers’ unions.

The Codrington School in St John is currently seeking permits for three non-Barbadian teachers for physical education, maths and its primary years programme.

And not only are the heads of the Barbados Union of Teachers’ (BUT)and the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) asking if no local teachers applied or were qualified for the posts, they have also questioned whether, given the massive workload of the Immigration Department, its officers were able to do the necessary due diligence before issuing work permits to schools.

While he admitted to not seeing the advertisement, president of the BUT, Pedro Shepherd, also had some questions for immigration.
