Resisting the pressure

UNDER THE headline Stick To Happy Christmas, your December 26 editorial asked: “Should we change to ‘Happy holidays’ and ditch ‘Happy Christmas’ in order to avoid offending someone who may or may not be Christian?”

It continued: “There is growing pressure, or so it seems, on Barbadians to be politically correct by wishing others ‘Happy Holidays’ instead of ‘Happy Christmas’. We must resist any such unreasonable demand . . . we should stick to the traditions which have served us well for centuries.”

Yet, since December 10, in almost every issue of The Nation newspaper, on both front and back pages, you have been greeting readers with “Happy holidays”.
