Clarine now in 100 club

IT WAS a new year celebration like no other for Barbadian Clarine “Darkie” Murray, who reached her  100th birthday.

At a celebratory event in her honour on Saturday, Clarine, who was born in Locust Hall, St George, on January 1, 1916, but has lived in Bristol, England, since 1956, was the centre of attention.

She was surrounded by daughters Elaine Massiah and Patsy Cummings, son Noel Moore, grandchildren Fiona, Marcia, Maxine and Trevor, and goddaughter Arlene. Extended family members, friends and other well-wishers joined in the celebration.

Clarine received a telegram from the Queen as well as a birthday card from MP Ian Duncan Smith, the works and pension minister.
