Naniki ready to get going

THE NANIKI Barbados Music Festival is ready to rock Barbados.

Speaking at a media launch at the Naniki Restaurant at Surinam, St Joseph, yesterday, Tom Hinds, promoter of the music festival, promised that this year’s package “would not disappoint with the carded line-up”.

The event, which runs from January 13 to 17 in association with the Royal Commonwealth Society, will present the music of Irvin Burgie who penned the island’s National Anthem. He also fashioned eight of the 11 tracks on the record-breaking album Calypso which took Harry Belafonte to international fame.

Dr Stefan Walcott and his band 1688 will deliver a multi-genre approach to Burgie’s music, as students of the Barbados Community College music programme have been offered the opportunity to attend the Irvin Burgie show free of cost. Hinds is hoping they will get to experience the thrill of the “big stage”.
