JULIAN “Michael Jackson” White was in ruthless mood on Saturday night when the quarter-finals of the Sports in the Community Road Tennis Tournament concluded at the Deighton “Pa” Roach Centre in Bush Hall, St Michael.
Playing for St John, White dispatched St Philip’s Rommel Griffith 21-1, 21-8. This is the first year Griffith is playing in the ‘A’ class and to say he had a baptism by fire is putting it mildly.
He tried his best but was no match for White, who has ruled the road tennis scene for quite some time now. After winning the first set 21-1, White gave away a few points in the second as if to ensure that Griffith would not be so badly beaten.
There was more positive news for St John in their second ‘A’ class match as Adrian ‘Dan’ Skeete also had an easy time against big Leon Carter of St Philip. Skeete won 21-13, 21-18 as the only resistance he received from Carter was in the second set.
