TURTLE MONITORING on the rugged north-east coast just got a little easier for the Barbados Sea Turtle Project (BSTP).

And it is thanks in part to last year’s Sargassum seaweed, as well as to civic-minded Barbadians who were aghast at the deaths of 42 turtles in the floating rafts of the seaweed.

A Phantom 3 drone was recently gifted to the Sea Turtle Project after a fundraising effort was spearheaded by Gabriel Abed and Lily Dash.

The money was raised through generous donations from Barbadians here and abroad in the aftermath of the multiple deaths of the green turtles, which were smothered by seaweed at a feeding ground just off Long Beach in July 2015.
