Nylon noose dooms Hawksbill

ONE OF BARBADOS’ critically endangered species of turtle is dead.

Yesterday morning at Brandon’s Beach, English visitor Adam Boulton said he found the Hawksbill turtle floating off the shore with its front flippers entangled in nylon.

Boulton, who is a diver and avid swimmer, said he believed the turtle was unable to be oxygenated because of the nylon which kept its flippers immobilised.

“It could not come up for air,” he added.
