Share post:

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER of the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS), James Paul, believes that the progress of Barbados’ agricultural sector is being hindered by a state of “bureaucratic constipation”.

And he charged that chief among these bureaucrats was Governor of the Central Bank, Dr DeLisle Worrell, who was reported as saying that the role the agricultural sector has to play in terms of maintaining food security in Barbados should not be a matter of vital concern to Barbados.

The BAS head described Dr Worrell’s statement as “unfortunate” and “demotivating”, especially to farmers.

“We are demotivating those persons who by their sweat, blood and sometimes by their tears, toil in the sun to produce goods that will prevent Barbados from having to look for foreign exchange in order to import.”
