AN OFFICIAL who interacts with the Government Industrial School (GIS) is calling for an overhaul of the institution, particularly the girls’ section.

The official told the SUNDAY SUN that there were issues at the school such as inappropriate sexual activity between staff and the girls and claims of mistreatment.

The official, who requested anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the situation and his position at the school, accused management of failing to tackle these issues, even though allegations about the goings-on at the institution were posted on a popular gossip website last November.

He said the publication caused a major uproar in the girls’ section of the school at Barrows, St Lucy, but he was dissatisfied with how the matter was handled.
