Trust needs ‘$900 000 yearly’

Nine hundred thousand dollars a year is what it will take for the Barbados National Trust to properly manage the nine tourist sites across this country under its care, without a struggle.

Dr Lennox Honychurch said realistically this would be the amount needed if the trust is not to worry about where the next month’s money is coming from.

The trust now relies on the Government subvention of $300 000 a year, and what money it gets from fundraising activities.

Money from these events, he said, has also fallen short in recent times, especially given the current economic climate.

He noted that from the time the trust was established in 1961, one of its major undertakings was to get donations to finance its work.
