AARON “VOICE” ST LOUIS took the International Soca Monarch title on what proved to a controversial Fantastic Friday in Trinidad and Tobago.

Singing Cheers to Life, Voice took the top prize, followed by Akeem “Preedy” Chance.

Patrice Roberts and Dexter “Blaxx” Stewart tied for third place.

Initial results did not indicate where Barbadians Peter Ram and Hypasounds placed.

A Trinidadian report on the show said Peter Ram had an “underwhelming performance” and Hypasounds had “excellent delivery on vocals”.

The decision by organisers to stream the event via pay per view and announce the winners the following day did not go down well with Trinidadians. Many felt it was flying in the face of tradition and money had taken precedence over culture.

Organisers had also barred patrons at the live show from posting images or video of the event until Sunday. (SAT)
