MORE THAN 100 PEOPLE WALKED AND RAN to fight Parkinson’s Disease as part of Barbados Parkinson’s Trust and Support Group’s 5k Run/Walk.

Organiser Cherry Vogt-Ward said the second annual event was used to raise awareness about the disease which affects the brain and nervous system, and symptoms include constant tremors and imprecise movements.

The participants started at 4 this evening at the Sunset Crest St James car park. They ran through the neighbouring West Coast communities and ended where they started.

June Knight finished first in the women’s category, followed by Carlie Pipe and Donna Blackman.

In the men’s division, Jerome Blackett led the field home, with Shamel Maynard second and Ackeem Rowe in third place. (TSG)
