TRISTON GIBBONS’ meteoric start to 2016 continued on Saturday when he threw a personal best to win the Under-18 Boys’ discus on the opening day of competition of the Louis Lynch Championships at the National Stadium.

Gibbons won with 48.18 metres, an improvement on the 45.73 metres he threw last month at the January Classic.

The Elite Distance athlete literally blew the competition out of the water. Seth Edwards was second with a best of 41.48 seconds while Enrique Babb of Coleridge & Parry was third with 38.34 metres.

There were more fireworks in the field, this time in the Under-18 Boys’ long jump. Lester Vaughan athlete Anderson Greaves won that event with 7.10 metres, a slight improvement on the 7.09 metres he jumped at the Joseph Payne Memorial Classic. Robert Ewart was second with 6.13 metres while Kayode Nurse was third with 6.00 metres.

Both Gibbons and Greaves had already this year produced CARIFTA qualifying performances. (PG)
