THESE WERE the instructions given by education officer Janice Reid to students of St Alban’s Primary yesterday as Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave visited the St James school.

Reid gave them several examples of how Sir Elliott overcame hurdles and obstacles in his youth to hold the highest office in the country.

“Embrace all disappointments, failures and obstacles. Find the inner strength of perseverance, diligence and determination. Learn to pick yourself up every time you fall. You have living proof here that you can be as proud and as successful as His Excellency,” she said.

Sir Elliott was treated to an entertainment package that included songs, poetry – including a school-penned poem titled Boy From Boscobel – and theatrical pieces.

The school choir also delivered one of his favourite songs, The Ash Grove. (AD)
