WHATEVER DECISION is made on health care financing, the situation facing people with disabilities must be taken into consideration.

So said director of the Barbados Council for the Disabled and Member of Parliament for St James North Edmund Hinkson on Monday night at the Ministry of Health’s town hall meeting at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

“It is estimated that between five and ten per cent of Barbadians have some form of disabilities whether it is physical or mental,” Hinkson said.

In addition, he explained that about 20 per cent of people who fell below the poverty line were disabled and as a result, great consideration had to be taken to discuss how their situation would be improved.
