Cheers, hugs highlight of Special day

THE TIMES WERE not record-breaking and neither were the throws.

However, the broad smiles and warm hugs that were given to almost every competitor definitely outshone the gold won by those athletes taking part in the Special Olympic events yesterday at the Carlton Ground.

A record 616 athletes, ranging from age eight to adults representing every special institution throughout the island, took part in the various sprints as well as ball throws.

First-timers from the Derrick Smith Vocational School dazzled in their colourful outfits as well as in their on-field performances. (KB)
