THERE WAS NO consolation of any sort for Barbados.

Both Adam Hornby and Seanon Williams lost their reverse singles contests in straight sets yesterday to seal a rough 5-0 defeat in the Davis Cup Group I Americas tie against Ecuador at the Portoviejo Tennis Club.

Playing on unfamiliar clay, Williams, who was replacing customary No.1 Darian King, lost 6-0, 6-2 to Emilio Gomez in just 50 minutes while first-timer Adam Hornby spent two fewer minutes on the court in a 6-0, 6-1 defeat against Ivan Endara.

On Saturday, Barbados also lost the doubles encounter with the experienced King and Haydn Lewis going under 6-4, 6-7 (7) 6-2, 6-3 to Gomez and Giovanni Lapenti in three-and-a-half hours of tough tennis. (JM)
