DORSETT’S victory in Saturday’s Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup wasn’t only a triumph for the Trinidadian owners but a further boost for Barbados’ staging of the Caribbean’s premier horse race.

That appraisal has come from Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley, who was among the thousands of horse racing fans at the Garrison Savannah for the prestigious event.

After congratulating winning owners Steve and Allan Madoo, Lashley said that their win was a victory for the Gold Cup. He pointed out that the race has attracted some high-quality international competition and added that it was a big bonus that a Caribbean owner has won it this year.

“I think the Sandy Lane Gold Cup has established a global brand,” said Lashley.
