LAST SATURDAY’S Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup race day will be long remembered by the people of China – not only for its fashionable splendour and cultural aspects but for the China Dream Project and the debut appearance of jockeys Qin Yong and Chen Li at the Garrison Savannah.
Although contrasting fortunes greeted both jockeys, the initiative between China Horse Club and the Barbados Turf Club (BTC) got off to a satisfying start.
Qin Yong landed a victory by piloting Jonn Three-Sixteen to a win in the race before the Gold Cup.
Chen Li, however, suffered a fall in the fifth race after crossing the finish line in ninth place aboard Nut Cracker.
