Teens’ close call at Bathsheba

TWO TEENAGED Canadians visiting Barbados with their parents for an ultimate experience of fun in the sun are recovering from a nightmare after they were pulled from the pounding surf of the Soup Bowl at Bathsheba, St Joseph, known for its crisscrossing waves and frothy waters.

Bathsheba Beach, situated on the east coast and exposed to the strong surges of the Atlantic Ocean, has earned a reputation as a surfer’s paradise for the adventurous – but a trap for the uninitiated.

And Kaiden Fernandes and Fraser Richardson, both 16, each holding a Bronze Cross and one level away from being certified lifeguards, had no idea what they were getting into when they went to get their feet wet.

“We were chilling in the coral and then we got up to swim and the next thing I knew we were like really far away from the beach,” Fernandes said.
