Customs, NUPW meeting soon

THE NATIONAL UNION OF PUBLIC WORKERS (NUPW) is to meet with authorities over the contentious recent appointment of customs officers.

Acting deputy general secretary of the NUPW Wayne Walrond revealed yesterday that the various unions, along with management of customs and other key players, were expecting to meet soon.

But he said that at this point whatever action the officers were taking the union was behind the officers who were working under stress.

He explained that while the action may not have been discussed with the union or planned in conjunction with it, whatever action they were taking had the support of the NUPW.

Walrond said the officers were going the extra mile and over extending themselves since the department was short of staff. (AC)
