THE MIDNIGHT HOUR may have finally come for basketball’s Cinderellas.
Lumber Company Lakers are now alone in first place, taking advantage of two late coaching blunders to win Thursday’s 80-77 overtime thriller against Urban Vybz St John’s Sonics in the Co-operators General Insurance Premier League at the Wildey Gym.
The result brought an end to a three-game winning streak for the Sonics, who shocked the league by winning four of their previous five games on a magical run that put them in a surprising three-way tie for first.
And they very nearly made it five out of six, having led by 11 at one stage, before clinging to a 71-70 lead with the ball inside the final ten seconds.
